English Examination, changed from 2025
For the evaluation of English proficiency, the TOEFL iBT or TOEIC Listening & Reading English score sheet are to be submitted at the time of application. However, TOEIC is only valid if you took it in Japan. Please note that IELTS, and TOEFL iBT® Home Edition (formerly TOEFL iBT® Special Home Edition) are not accepted. Please refer to the application guidelines for valid English scores.
Written Examination (Speciality), not changed from Schedule B, 2025
The questions for applicants to the Medical Sciences Group and the Computational Biology Group will be changed, and applicants will be required to select and answer three questions from a total of 11 questions from the fields of the life science, information science, and related fields.
For doctral applicants to the Medical Sciences Group, the same questoins will be asked as for the Master's program, but of three questions answered, only the two quesions with the highest evaluation after scoring will be used for the pass/fail decision.
Contents of Written Examination (Speciality)
Answer 3 of the following 11 questions. There are no required questions.
- 1 question — Life sciences and information sciences fundamentals
- 5 questions — Life science and related fields
- 5 questions — Information science and related fields
Life sciences and information sciences fundamentals (Q1)
As the basics of computational biology and medical sciences, half of the questions will be in the fundamentals of life sciences and half in the fundamentals of information sciences.

Life science and related fields (Q2-6)
Questions cover Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular biology, Embryology and Immunology, and Oncology.
Genetics includes molecular genetics and human genetics. Molecular biology includes methods for analzing experimental data.
Information science and related fields (Q7-11)
Questions cover Complexity, Linear Algebra, Graph Theory, Dynamic Programming, Probability and Statistics, and Sorting Algorithms.
