My major is far from Computer Science. Can I apply to the Computational Biology group?

Regardless of your major, you can apply to the Computational Biology group. Students from various backgrounds such as biology, pharmacology, medicine, mathematics, statistics, information science, and engineering have passed the entrance exam and successfully completed the program. There are also a small number of students who come from the so-called liberal arts. Since we are in an interdisciplinary field that integrates many academic disciplines, you will need to study many fields that you do not have a background knowledge after entering the program.

In general, you can take the entrance examination for a master's course even if you are from a very distant field. In the case of the doctoral course, the situation differs from laboratory to laboratory, and depending on your field of study, it may be difficult to complete the course on time, so we strongly recommend that you consult with the laboratory of your choice in advance.

Can students in the Medical Sciences group (or the Computational Biology group) obtain CBSP (MGSP)?

Yes.

Can this major qualify for a teaching license (specialty) in Japan?

Please see "Obtaining a Teaching License (in Japanese)" for details.

Can I see the list of classes provided?

Please refer to "the curriculum on our CBMS website."

Are there any communications among different labs?

We would say that students on the same campus have communications between labs, as you expect. People frequently come and go, have chats and discussions between labs especially when they are in the same building.
To encourge networking between students and between campuses, new students gather in the Kashiwa campus on the department orientation day. We observed many new students have connections after the orientation day. We also observed a foreign student network.
We also have a class excersise that introduce experimental techniques of laboratories, providing students with an opportunity to communicate between labs and campuses.

Is there any procedure I have to do physically in the Kashiwa campus?

Yes, there is. Major procedures that can only be completed at Kashiwa Campus include enrollment procedures and the issuance/receipt of various certificates using the automatic certificate issueing machines installed at Kashiwa Campus. Please consult with us if you are an overseas student who has difficulty entering Japan.

Can a doctoral-course student apply for an exchange program at University of Lyon?

Yes. Both master/doctoral course students can apply.

What is the minimum requirement for getting a PhD degree?

The explicit requirement is that you have the publication of at least one first-author paper in a peer-reviewed journal in English. In addition to this, your research in the doctoral program must be of a quality worthy of a doctoral degree at the University of Tokyo.
